If you have an automatic transmission, the switch for the backup lights is combined with the neutral safety switch in the transmission. If you have a manual there will still be a switch in the tranny to trigger the backup lights, just different from the neutral safety combo in the auto.

i wouldnt drive it tell you figure it out. could have bent valves or bad lifters. have you checked the timing? it should be between 8*-10* btdc with spout connector removed. but this could do more harm to your motor driving it.

If it was the oil pump you would have spun a bearing or thrown a rod by now. Like Kem said, how's the actual oil PRESSURE. Lots o' oil doens't necessarily mena its getting everywhere it needs to. I would tend to believe its sticky lifters more than anything. Might try a detergent product like CD-2 in place of a quart or 2 of oil. But do make certain you are getting good oil pressure before you go driving it. Sticky lifters are still less expensive than stuck pistons!

Sea Foam it ....

The oil passages could be clogged up allowing the lifters to collapse at higher rpm. Try running some Sea Foam in it for a while to flush out the passages. Then do an oil change using any filter except Fram.

They're the absolute cheapest and poorly made filters on the market. I wouldn't use a fram on a lawnmower.

Kem, if you really want to drain your life savings you can put a Mobil One filter in it! They are fantastic filters but you will spend upwards of $12 on one.
