I have a 87 bronco2 2.9, and i just purchased some headers from jcwhitney... Now the question is, would any of you say this is a do it yourself job, or take it to a mechanic so they can deal with all those rusted bolts?? I've taken a look at the bolts that are on the manifold right now, and they look to be in poor shape, and will probably just twist off as i loosen them.. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.
I'm wanting to put headers on my '90 Bronco II 2.9 V6 4WD also. Been searching the big dealers (Hooker, Heddman, etc.) but have not found anyone that makes them for my truck. What brand are the headers you got from JCWhitney? How much were they? I have an exaust leak so need to do something fairly quick. Keep posting so we all know how it went.
WD-40 and patience and they should come right off. If the stud do break good luck. I hope you have a drill an easy out and a tap to re-thread it. Of course thats worse case senerio.
The headers i got are for only 86-89.. heres the link if u still want to see them... http://www.jcwhitney.com/productnoitem.jhtml?CATID=63497&BQ=jcw2
Yeah, i guess i should put some penetration oil on them awhile, i gotta wait a couple of weeks for the headers to come through the mail..
I notice that your headers are for 2WD. Most people have 4X4's if I remember right. Is there any way you could take a picture of how they fit when you get them on? I don't know much about the difference between 2 and 4 wheel drive chassis, but if headers work, I'm there!
No I wouldn't say that this is something you'd want to do in your driveway. Just rebuilt my 2.9L in the 86 Bronco II. With the engine on a stand in the perfect position and plenty of liquid wrench I was able to save 2 bolts out of the whole mess. The rest broke off in the head. This isn't the first time I've done this type of work. If I didn't have the SnapOn bolt extractors (left turning drills} some of the bolts would still be in the heads. I couldn't even amagine trying to do that with the engine still in. Good Luck!!!
