auto transmissions?
What transmission[s] would have been used on a 1979 f100 with a 351M /400 engine? Big block C-6, FMX ???? The block has a fairly wide bolt pattern across the top. thanks

When I bought my first 76 F250, someone had yanked the original 360 and dropped in a 351C and an FMX. It worked pretty well till the oil pump locked up.
If it has a 351M, then it has to be a C6 for a bigblock. A big block C6 will also work with a 429 or 460 as well. You've got a good heavy duty tranny, even if you have to rebuild it some day.
