When the gas engine start, does it sound like a regular vehicle ? How quiet or noisy is it ? I would imagine it will sound annoying to hear the gas engine keep turning on and off when driving. Or hear one kind of noise from electric motor, then another kind of noise for the gas engine.
it is actually very quiet in both modes. you can sort of feel the gas engine cut out when at idle or stopped for a time, like at a light, sort of like a stall. the gas engine engages at, i think 25 mph, and i think in conjunction with the electrics and cv tranny it moves briskly.
our test drive was in an industrial park type of area with a lead and follow vehicle. the leader communicated with the hybrids with a walkie talkie and let us follow him at up to 40 mph and up a fairly steep hill to experience the tranny and combo of gas electric.
these vehicles look like they will come with a nav sys as this screen also shows regenerative charging. that was distracting but i'm sure the novelty will wear off.
just not my cup of tea i guess, but for around town driving it could be great on gas.
We've got 'em in stock, and I do think it's the way of the future. Very smooth transition between gas and electric; sometimes the only way you can tell is to watch what the gauges are doing. And it feels just as powerful as the V6, too.

But it can only tow 1000#
Not the way of MY future.
Does anybody make comparance of acceleration between hybrid and v6 escape?
Ford says that the accelaration is the same, but how is it in reality?
And it is interesting how quiet is the hybrid while cruising on the highway, I mean what RPM is. As I have understand, hybrid on the highway goes on gas power, but engine is isn't powerfull, and I afraid that the RPM will be high in comparance with v6. For example, when escape v6 goes 75 mph, RPM is about 2100.
Lida.
i have an 05 v 6 and the hybrid seemed comparable in the limited driving i got to do. again, we could only drive at 40 mph at most and only for a short stretch.
Just picked up my Hybrid Escape today. I have not timed the acceleration but it seams quite good. I was in the store parking lot and scared a woman, as it is so quiet (on electric motor) she almost walked in front of the vehicle. The sound is a lot different then most vehicles. It runs the electric motor as a generator to charge the battery and does produce a faint whine. You can tell when the engine starts if you are really paying attention, but it isn't noisy. The system uses the electric motor to start the engine. I would state the sound is different due to the CVT. The engine Rpm's varies unlike a "normal" transmission. If you accelerate to quickly it will start the engine and you will lose the benefit of the hybrid. Takes a little getting use to. Note the fancy screen with the Nav system is an option (one I don't have).
This has got to be the best vehicle I have purchased and the coolest.
I would like to take a look at one and a ride. My wife put 48K miles in under 2 years with her Escape so highway driving is what the Escape primarliy does. That pretty much wipes out any benefit the hybrid has unless sitting in stop and go traffic.
This sounds good. Hope we can get them in Australia too (one day in a decade not too far away). We have a few Hondas and Toyota small hybrids but nothing in the small SUV range.
