I've got a 93' F-150 4x4, I'm thinking of an engine swap.
What I'm not sure of, is which engine should I go to. I was brainstorming and the first to come to mind was the F.I. 460 Just because I could, you know, big beefy POWERFULL engine. But as I think about it I'm wondering if I should keep the 302 and make it a power-house or if I should go to the 351W.
I want to keep the fuel injection which ever way I go, but I want good power.
Is the 351 a better choice mainly because of its 49 c.i. difference?
The reason I've thought of keeping the 5.0 is because there's a boat load of parts for this engine........from what I've read it's identical to the engine Ford put in the 80's GT Mustangs......
Also I'll be doing the tranny and t-case......5spd and an NP 205.
Just want the opinion of everybody, unbiased opinion of course.
I'm looking for good all around power/torque from an engine, that's why I was wondering about the 351. If they had a Fuel Injected 390 or 427 I'd realy be happy.

I've got a 302 H.O. out of an 86 Mustang GT that I'm building for mine and I'll be putting in a cam, larger injectors, a K&N Filter Pack, a larger throttle body, better fuel pumps, and reprogramming the computer just for a few tricks you can do. We figure around 300+ HP when we're done. She'll be going in the truck in the spring of 2005
I like big motors like a 460, but do not like an extra 400 lbs on the front wheels. A stroker 351 would be cool also, but then you've got change issues and a makeup issue on the EFI.
A stroker 302 will give you more beef with less Bull, imo.
I'm thinking the 351, the main thing I'm looking for is a doner rig somthing not pretty on the outside but with a good engine, if i can't find that then i'll stick to the 302 and go from there.
I'm just lookin' for a good powerplant for a pre-runner, because thats what my truck'll be when I get done.
Go with the 351, you can stroke it out to a 393 or 408 and have tons of HP/TQ, and down low where you need it too. Its a fairly simple swap and your existing tranny has the correct bolt pattern. I have a 393 in my 94 F150 and it came with a 302.
