I went to an allignment shop and they told me my car was unalignable. They said the control arm was bent, so i replaced it. then i took it in and they told me i need to replace all four of the tie rod ends.
So do i need to actually replace the ends or just the bushings?
if i have to replace the ends where is the cheepest place to get them, NAPA wants over $200?
By the way its a '91 explorer 4x4
Not sure what you mean by "replace the ends or just the bushings," since there really aren't any bushings in the tie rods. If the tie rods are loose, then they need to be replaced. It's possible that all you need are the two outer tie rod ends, and the two inner tie rod ends are still serviceable, but that kind of determination needs to be made on your end. Basically there should be no play in any of the tie rod joints.
$200 is probably about right for all four tie rod ends. You might check www.autozone.com or www.partsamerica.com and see if you can get some cheaper tie rod ends. Cheaper isn't always better, but I haven't had any trouble with the McQuay-Norris tie rods.
