Im about to do a tranny flush on a buddys 2002 F-350 7.3L auto. I am not sure how to go about it. So far this is what ive gathered you need to do, please correct me if im wrong.
1.Drain old ATF out
2. Remove tranny pan
3. Locate filter
4. Replace filter
5. Reninstall pan with new gasket
6. Fill with mercon ATF
Another thing im not sure about is where to fill the transmission with the atf? I cant see any filler tube or anyhing?
I changed the trans fluid in my 96 F-350 this last weekend using the article Casey listed. It worked good. I just wish I had the drain plug kit to install, I am going to buy one now to put in the next change.
i was just wondering, if you let the truck idle untill the tube shows no more fluid is coming out, isnt there a chance you could wreck something in the TC or tranny cause there isnt any oil in there to lube moving parts? i thought there was a pump of some sort to move the fluid as you drive it, couldnt you blow the pump by running it dry?
Mybigredford, I ran it until I seen the first air bubbles start, then shut the engine down. 8 qts. came out. Put 8 qts. (new) in. Ran the engine 4 qts came out (until bubbles started). Put 4 qts.(new) in. Repeated until a total of 20 qts. came out. I kept an account of the amount that came out & what was put in. I did not drain the TC, this fluid is being replaced with the new fluid you are adding. After about 18 qts. have came out, you can see the fresh fluid flowing out.
