first of all my 4 low won't engage, it just blinks, it worked fine a week ago, smelled something that was too hot, but could not find it, tried to engage it yesterday no good
secondly my cruise is messing up, it will surge up until you stop it, quit working or slowly lose speed and hold a lower speed and then lose speed again, yesterday it wouldn't work at all
for the 4-low, i have to stop and put my truck in nuetral. press the 4-low button and let it blink for about 5 times, then i press the clutch in and it usually turns on. if i do anything outside this sequence sometimes just the 4-high will turn on or they will both shut off. hope this helps
As for the 4 Low, My husband has problems with his, too. This is in his '90. The cruise control? Exact same problem here with my '86. I don't know!! Maybe this is usual in a B2??
I've tried to keep silent about all this transfer case 4X4 electronic shift crap but I can't stand it anymore! Doesn't anyone see a pattern here? Manual shift anything is 100 times more reliable than electronic crap. Sure, it takes 10 seconds walking outside to engage your hubs, but if it's winter, just drive with them engaged anyway. The damage caused, if any, is negligible. If you're offroading, take the 10 seconds before you leave or go onto the trail to engage your hubs. Then all you have to do is pull a lever. Whatever position it's in is what your in. Doesn't that sound more reassuring than blinking lights or questioning clicks??? I can shift into 4 low faster than anyones electronic shift can! And I know it's in! Don't spend anymore time with that electronic crap. Let it do the minute fast measurements for the engine, but where work is needed, go manual. You'll never bicker about it again.
Kold, I don't think anyone is questioning, which is more reliable, or convienent. My 88 BII would click a lot before engaging. In cold weather it sometimes failed to engage. After about 2 years of sporatic operation the buttons no longer have any effect on low or 4 wheel operation. It seems they no longer have a power source. I have checked fuses and power at the fuse panel and cannot find anything wrong. It seems the clicking, when it used to, came from the passenger kick panel. Does anyone know if there are some relays located in this area, or have any suggestions on solving this problem.
