Question Lock for Tail Gate

A close friend bought a new Ranger 2004….like the truck, does any one know a good brand of tail gate lock, sure wish it would have come with one.
Has anyone used one.

At work we use 'gorrilla locks' tail gate locks. They sort of wrap onto the handle and keep it from being opened enough to release the latch. We pick them up at the local trailer shop.

Most of your quality bed covers and toppers have locks on them, and they typically wrap down over the top of the tailgate in order to secure the bed. If you have a soft bed cover then the tailgate lock will be a waste of time and money (IMHO).

Thanks Ken and Rocky, she had a roll top put on, very nice unit, goes up against the tail gate, but no lock (on the gate) ....sounds like pop-in-lock is the way to go....

A hose clamp on the right side hinge point will slow someone down. You could even epoxy over the screw slot on the clamp.

Pop-n-lock makes a power lock for the tailgate. I put one in my 98 ranger, installed easy and works great. would definately recommend it

Tim,
Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm not familiar with the roll top. Funny, I was just imagining something like that for my next upcoming truck purchase. Can you provide any more info on the roll top, or even a brand name that I might be able to research?

ug...brand name, bummer got me there.
It is a top that has a 12x12 box behind the cab to rails run the length of the bed, you pull the strap, and it unrolls to the tailgate. it also has a lock, which is great, however you can open the tail gate and see what ever is in the bed.....hence the need for a tail get lock...still wondering why Ford did not have one...
I will get the name..

Tailgate lock Pop n Lock works pretty good, just made opening tailgate a little bit harder but nothing to worry about.

Soft tonneau Access Cover I highly recommend, Truxcedo, Truck Hyde, many other out there
Hard tonneau retractable Retrax (best as I've been told) Pace Edwards, Jack Rabbit that's all i can think of

Most have some sort of locking mechanism to lock the tonneau shut but don't also lock the tailgate as a lock for the tailgate is a necessity.

I bought a pop lock for my 2001 ranger, 4x4. It works great, a little more time to unlock it, but other than that I like it. I got it mail order and put it in myself, took about 30 minutes or so.
