Front end Rust

Yesterday I mounted the Kleen Wheels Dust Shields and noticed that there was rust all over the drivers side front wheel assembly. Also on the inside of the wheel itself. It looked like the whole front wheel assembly has been setting outside in the weather for a year. I picked the truck up in July and it has been in my garage with the exception of a 4,000 mile trip ending a week ago. I am really concerned about the rust. Shouldn't the control arms been painted? Is this normal?

you picked your truck up in july, but when was it assembled. it could have been sitting outside for quite a while if it was assembled last year. as far as your control arms are concerned, don't worry, they are aluminum.

Are you talking about flash rust on the cast iron parts? Thats normal. All cast iron will do that. Like 04fx4scab state, those control arms are aluminum, so coating them is not needed.
