Be prepared

Any recognized name brand will work fine. However, the last three vehicles I've flushed with a cleaner of various name brands, ALL started to leak at the water pump! Coincidence? I THINK NOT! I still think flushing it out is the right thing to do, but I try to do it when I don't NEED my vehicle for a day or so just in case the pump starts to leak.

The prestone seems to be pretty good stuff. I've not had any problems with it. It's like switching to synthetic oil - if stuff starts leaking, it's your gaskets' fault, not the stuff you put in it.

Prestone makes a flush kit that is available at pretty much any parts store,i.e. Advance, Autozone, it works quite well. I have been using it for about 10 yrs. If you flush regularly you probably don't even really need a concentrated flush often.

Thanks alot for the feedback. Now I just need to find out how many gallons of mix (coolant/water) I need to get and I will be set to get it flushed.

Thumbs up

That should be in either a Haynes or Chilton manual. Don't know if you have the orig. owners manual or not. If you can't find it I will see what years my books cover.

Cooling System Capacities for '95 F150 w/ 5.8L VIN = H
Manual trans w/ std cooling = 15.7 Quarts
Auto trans w/ std cooling = 16.4 Quarts
Auto or Manual w/ A/C =16.4 Quarts
Auto or Manual w/ Super Cooling =18.0 Quarts
Taken from Chilton's Ford pickups Repair Manual - 1987 - 1995
I would add that every time I flush and fill mine it never seems to take as much as manual says and thats with heater on high and everything. Oh well, maybe it's magic!!
