Hi to all. I searched didnt find this all ready discussed. I have a 85 F250.I believe with Dana 70 rear & 50 front. This is a work play truck. What lockers would you all sugest for my use. Are the Detroit to severe?
I dont think a detroit is a bad choice if you want a zero maintenance bullet proof locker for the rear. But I noticed some"cupping" of the tread on my tires after a while. I had a 1997 F-250HD with the detroit in the rear and powertrax no slip unit in the front, that combo worked very well for me in the sand. I do reccomend making sure you have a Dana 70 and 50 (might be a 44 in front) before spending any $ any shop that sells or installs should be able to I.D. them

if you really do have a dana 50 in the front, your only choice is an ARB.
A detroit would be a great choice for the rear. They are tough, however, they can be quite annoying on the street.
Eaton's are great, but I don't think they make them for the Dana 70. For his '85 F-250, he could have either a Sterling or a Dana 70, and your selection is pretty small.. either a detroit or an ARB.
No Eaton for the d70 or sterling. The ARB is avaiilable but very pricey. You probably shouldn't lock the D50. A trac lok (aka crap lok) is about the most it can handle with all that weight. The new detroits (aka soft locker) aren't as noisy as the old ones.
THANKS FOR THE REPLIES ! My rear has 10 bolts, drain plug on rear cover.Axel tubes taper going into drums. Hope this helps some one with positive id on rear.
Will probably wait until I get a solid axel up front before I get locker for it.
