Question Airbags?

Hello all. I have to replace the ignition on a 1995 Ford F150. To do so i need to remove the steering wheel. this is where the hang up is. How do i deal with the air bag?!?!? Anyone know how to disable it so it doesnt accidently go off?

Please help

If all you need to replace is the keylock unit it will come out with a 1/8 pin inserted in an access hole on the bottom of the lock hub of the column. You will need to be able to turn the key to the ON position, push in on a plunger on the lock and pull the lock out of the column - disconnect battery first!. You can probably find an autoparts store that has replacement lock cylinder. If you cant turn it - no key the wheel will have to come off and drill out lock cylinder; see a locksmith?. See Haynes manual for pictures; Parts stores for less than $20and well worth it. The electrical ignition switch is on lower steering column under dash.
One book says to disconnect battery positive cable for at least 0ne minute to allow air bag backup voltage source to discharge - recommend being conservative - I have seen 30 min in this forum. Handle with care, avoid static electricity and store bag upright on non conducting surface.
Please use caution and consult someone who has done this before - I have not!!!
