I would like to use my original temperature gauge bacuase the speedometer and the other gauges are working just fine but I suppose they changed it to a AutoMeter gauge when they changed the engine to a ford sb. (289)
Is it possible to use the original temp.gauge with any temp. sender unit or do i have ti rebuild the gauge??? Can I test the original temp. gauge somehow?
Mats Nilsson, Sweden
You should be able to buy the original sender for your truck and put it in your 289 and it should work that way. As for using any sender it needs to be a same ohm value as the original. If you want I can see what mine is on my 57. To test the guage turn the key on and find the wire under the hood and hook a test light to it and the guage should read something.
I am really appreciate if you could check the ohm value on the sender unit.
Do you think I can check the gauge with one cable from the sender unit and one from the batteri (+) . I dont know if I will need a ground to or if the cable from the sender unit are the ground cable?????
Thanks a lot!!! Mats Nilsson,Sweden
The sending unit provides a ground for the guage. So if you hook a test light to the wire and just ground the test light the light bulb should provide some restance to make the guage work.(to test it) You can just ground the wire but the test light will keep from hurting the guage. I will get you the value tommorow.
