What exactly is the proper way to clean the EGR with minimal chance of damage to either it or the vehicle? I am also going to remove the throttle body and give it a good bath in parts dip to remove years of negligence. Any help is appreciative….
it prob is not the correct way but i washed mine in gasoline.......gave it a good squirt of spray lubricant....washed it again and another light spraying of lubricant.
it was stuck......that freed it.......been working about 3 years since doing that.
The QUICKest way is to use carb cleaner, thats SAFE to use on Thottle Body's. it will clean up real quick and all you need to do is wipe and air blow it, its works real well...of course if you want to use gas, its much higher in cost and is messy and will get over everthing including in your eyes and think how hard it will be on the skin, it will dry your skin out an might cause a skin burn if you do it long enough...oh, and the hazards of smoking while cleaning...not recommended...you might lose more than a few strains of hair....the other method is safe and easier to do, and its does it in less time too.
It would be better to clean it too (passages of the EGR) with carb cleaner, the egr has a rubber piece inside it, and wouldn't recommend to clean it, just replace them is the sure way of knowing that it doesn't have any pin size holes in it....
I cleaned the EGR and throttle body. Easy once you have a wrench large enough to take the EGR OFF. Lots of black carbon but everything looks like it was in good running order. I did notice a verticle crack on the catalatic converter so thats going to get replaced soon. I am also going to take it to a shop and have the tranny looked over. Hope it works out well...
