I'm sure ya'll know by now that Motorcraft 5W30 synthetic blend is $1.42 a quart at Wal-Mart.On there old bottles,it reads "Super Premium" motor oil, which is a SL rating. It also reads that it is "synthetic/hydrocracked".
On the newer bottles it reads "Premium Synthetic Blend" motor oil, which is SL,SM rated. It also reads that it is "synthetic hydro-processed". Is there a difference in the two? I could only find 3 quarts of the newer SM rated oil and bought 3 of the older SL rated.Being they are synthetic based, are they the same oil?
Hydro-processed and hydrocracked are different names for the same process. It's an exothermic process that consumes hydrogen. So excess hydrogen is add to the process to keep from coking the catalyst. "Sy<!>nthetic hydro-processed" means it's a Group III sy<!>nthetic. It's all good.
