I just picked up a 96 F150 for $1500. Great deal. However, two problems I have noticed immediately.
1. When puting the selector to floor or defrost neither of them happen. If I put it on defrost the air comes out the vent cooler then when on floor. Anyone have any suggestions? Would this problem be the switch itself or a broken vacuum line.
2. The **** on the light switch comes off. Any suggestions there?
Finally, this is a construction companies estimators truck. It has been fairly well taken care of but the sign adhesive is still on the doors. What can I use to remove that?
My son is jazzed since he is now able to give up on "Jessy" our 77 F100. It's a great work truck but this 96 is light years ahead.
Bug & tar remeover should safely remove the adhesive, if not go gently with a damp cloth of acetone. The most common problem I've seen with the vent selector is usually under the dash, either linkage became disengaged, or bad "manifold?" (where the lines join to make like a hub). Also make sure your ducting is all hooked up while you're there.
well .... all the above suggestions on the heater problem are good possibilities....plus....don't forget the vacuum switches. on mine the problem was a big dirt daubers nest on the "flapper" door that the lines and vacuums and switches direct. the door would try to operate but the gob of dirt dauber mud prevented it.
