Those are pretty slick; my previous employer made an exhaust system standard on the Nissan Skyline (a twin-turbo Japan-only model) that used a valve like the "streetpro" unit, that was electronically controlled to open only above a certain rpm, and which bypassed a portion of the muffler.
We then developed a system for the C4 LT-5 (ZR-1) Corvette using the same type valves, to "short-circuit" the dual mufflers above about 4000 rpm. It worked wonderfully well, and as long as it didn't open at idle or low rpm, it still sounded good, wasn't excessively noisy.
Needless to say, GM didn't want to do it on the Corvette because it "cost too much."
(We would have charged an additional $50 a car to incorporate that feature, plus maybe another $35 for the electronic control module).

So I'd say, go for it! But I'd recommend (a) using the streetpro unit, so the operating module is isolated from exhaust heat, and (b) installing an outlet pipe from the bypass running to the rear of your truck, to avoid the really obnoxious noises you get with too short exhaust pipes.

I have always wondered about the durability. I live not too far outside Chicago and I would hope the units could last a season or two with our winters and salt.

That might be a problem; what do the suppliers say? Will they give a warranty against corrosion?
If not...

Some give one year. But winter is like 6 mos. here. I will keep everyone informed after I make a choice of manufacturer.
