I agree, it will be a sad day when cars drive themselves, safer, no doubt, but risks are just part of life (and driving is a fun one).

I have had Traction control (TC) switch reversed on my car, so I don't have to go through the ritual every time I start the car of turning TC off.
I just turn it on when its raining cats and dogs, and I am in traffic...

Don't know if anybody's said it yet...but I miss vinyl seats. I love leather but never liked fabric seats. Sure the vinyl is hot in the summer and cold in the winter, but it lasts a long time and is easy to clean. My E150 has really tough vinyl seats. It would just about take a chainsaw to cut them, but it seems like vinyl is only available in base model trucks. Why don't mini vans that carry sloppy, drippy children offer vinyl? Nothing to me looks worse than a cloth seat that's stained and has burn holes in it.

What about the old school trucks with the gas tank right behind the seat. When you go somewhere smelling like leaded fuel. Or how about the cowl vent in the 50s. You had no air istead you had some hot air getting in from that vent.

I can work on fuel injection in my driveway...it just takes a different set of tools, most notably a multitester and a fuel pressure gage.

I'll take fuel injection over a carburetor any day. Nothing to go out of adjustment and the damn car will actually idle right on cold days without having to tweak the choke. My first car had a carb, and as much as I liked that car, I hated having to fool with the carburetor all the time to get the car running right in different conditions.

Things I miss:
-HARDTOPS!!!!
-14" baloney skins on the back
-interchangeability
-bodies made of metal
-locking front hubs and solid axles
-3 on the trees (funnest driving experience ever)
-fast and faster wipers
-sliding rear windows
-dual tanks
-15" and 16.5" wheels
-cars that didn't control themselves
-rock crusher 4spds.
-9" Ford rear ends
-when trucks were boxy
-exhaust without cats
-and finally QUALITY WORKMANSHIP!!!
why'd they have to get rid of these!?

One thing I don't miss are the vent wings. My 94 F-150 has em, and I wish they weren't there.

One good new thing is the 3rd and 4th doors on ext. cab. God those are handy.

How about real metal door handles that you could grab instead of these little plastic wimpy things.

I'll miss the apreciated value of the old trucks. The new trucks won't be valued as much in 15-20 years like the old ones are now.

....Been a Longgg time since I even looked at a new truck, but, the one thing that really bothered new was lack of a FUNCTIONAL options package:
If I want'd the HD towing package I had to get 6-adjustable seats, electric mirrors, interior carpeting package, bose sound system etc etc....
when all I really wanted was the big block, tow hitch, spare gas tank, hd suspension and a split bench seat....
I liked being able to clean out the interior with a garden hose...My trucks have always been work trucks shouldnt need a detail shop just to keep it clean....1000.00 sound systems are an invitation for broke windows and high insurance rates...no thanks, I like the fact that I can leave my truck unlocked with the windows rolled down and not have to wonder if its still gonna be there when I go to the store....
.....True story:
Dropped my truck off at the shop (next door to a transient motel)for some brake work, left it over memorial day weekend....someone tried to steal it by hammering a screw driver into the ignition to start it.....my ignition is dash mounted.....couldve saved me a $100.00 if they knew ANYTHING about hotwiring....I just had to laugh..besides who in their right mind would try to steal a vehicule from a mechanics shop......what a ma-rooon....

I hear that, we have two cars about 10 years old with EFI, neither have needed servicing, at least not on the EFI system. Can't say the same about the carb equipped auto's...
