That would stand to reason since this one would have to be a LATE high boy considering the build date. I always thought that the front axe looked small. What should be in there for a front axe? a 60? with drum brakes? Thats just great to have a one-off set of springs. (with a stack that big I doubt I'll have to replace them though)

the highboys had a d44 under the front, the same thing thats under almost all the 3/4 tons. the only difference over the years is low to high pinion and the ram assist to real power steering. how many leaves you got under the front of yours?

Good ?. I have to check now. I wanna say 6 but not really sure. The rear is where their at, man I didn't even count there are so many. Its just like "WOW" thats alot of springs. All I know is that 2 pallats of sead corn just make it quat. Probably over loading but oh well thats why I bought it.

77 highboy

my 77 highboy also had 400 c6 divorced transfer dana 70 rear 44hd front false door in bed true power steering with geerbox but now has all the same but with a 460 soon to be a four speed.I love the old trucks but my highboy is more of my beater/wood truck but i drive my 2000 superduty pinger daily and that thing will pull let me tell ya.

Well since we were looking at this I had to go check last night. I have 6 springs in front and 14 out back!!

6 leaves in the front, 11 in the back with a helper spring & perches. D44HD front & D70 rear.

Got more money into it than it is worth, rides terrible and gets horrendous gas mileage, but it is a part of the family....

...............Most 76 , 77 hiboys should come with the dana 44HD axle . The best way to tell is to measure the diameter of the locking hub(s) , which should be 4 1\2 inches . The lighter gvw , f250 , 4x4 trucks came with a lighter D44 front axle which will have smaller diameter hubs ....sk...

In mid 76 ford changed to a 3,600 lb. front axle (Dana 44HD) with disks for all F-250's 4x4's. The hot ticket is the Dana 60 high pinion used on select 77 1/2 thru 79 F250 & all F-350's 4x4's. These axles are getting very expensive......
