Overdrive Sensor Location

Hi All,

190 E250
351

For some reason I think the overdrive wiring has something to do with a intermitent starting problem I have.
When I get engine to fire the overdrive button switch seems to act normal but when I crank engine and there is a no start the button doesnt feel like its working also the lite doesnt come on.

Need help locating unit that activates it.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

The main engine computer controls the transmission. The overdrive button is just a switch to the computer to tell it if you want to manually drop out of overdrive.

I do believe you may see a difference in the overdrive switch operation, but I think this is the wrong approach to take to troubleshoot this problem. I would make sure I had spark and fuel when the engine will not start.

I don't have a detailed diagram of your van, but it would be curious to see what voltage source feeds the overdrive lightbulb. If it has something in common with the computer system, this may be your problem. The EEC relay, or a small ground wire from the battery negative could be bad.
