Question VSS vs RABS question.......

Is it the same item that goes a top the rear-end? 96 auto 4wABS

pulling code PO500 - VSS spedo not working, overdrive light flashing, tranny shifting hard

parts store said part attaches to transmission...........(chain store)

The vss part i purchased from them looks like a cable would have to go in it and 2 wire connection (found photo on a web site and it's called "ignition vehicle speed sensor"). Can not find part i bought on my tranny........I did find the RABS sensor(that i think is same as VSS), and hope they just gave me the wrong part?

man, i like my 79s

THANKS for feedback - i did search on site, and still confused

Man I hate chain stores.
Only time I buy from them is when I go in with part in hand.
Can you call a dealer and see if they have a clue ?

man, i like my 79s

sounds like you got the wrong part. your rear sensor on your rig is also the vss. so its what needs replaceing . i would call ford just incase to cross reference. or go to napa they tend to do a better job

you dont need to buy from them just confirm what type of part you need then go to napa . unless its a dealer specific part

Thats why I love the Ford dealer here in St. Louis....Broadway Ford. they are actually a Ford/Sterling heavy vehicle dealer but they stock parts for all Ford trucks all the way down to the Ranger and they are open 24/7 for service so the parts counter is too! Sorry, just had to rub that in a little!

Got motorcraft part # F85Z-2L373-AC SENSOR ASSY - S4 List $20.80 paid $14.35. Man i hate it when they are closed!!!

I took the chain store part back and received my $21.xx and let them know that it was the wrong one, even brought in the m/c part to show them the correct one - trying to help them so no one else would have the same screwy deal. They could not find any part like the correct one and acted like nothing would be done to flag it in system - go figure........Oh, my ford man i deal with went to the shelf without looking it up in system

sorry for long post, might help someone else out.........96 is running fine.

Chain store was advance - if you ever need the part, take yours off and take it in - i would bet they give you the wrong one.....

I can still say i haven't bought part from chain store in long time

They are ignorant and must drive a Honda. Take it back when they are crowded.

gregollo,

Make sure you pull the code(s) first! The speed sensor is on the rear axle that I replaced.

Good luck
