Hard to start

Ok, my aero* has been doing this for awhile, but it's starting to bug me. For the first 2000 miles after an oil change, the van will not start on the first try. I have to turn the key on, let the fuel pump run, then turn it off, then crank. Most of the time, when I try to start on the first turn, it won't, then when I try again, the starter just grinds like it is already started. This only seems to happen after an oil change, it seems like once I get about 2000 miles on it after, it will work fine. Any ideas?

I don't know of any connection between oil changes and starting problems. The starting proceedure you describe is not uncommon on older models. When starting, I have to turn the key, wait until I hear the fuel pump stop before proceeding or else I have problems with backfiring or just grinding without starting. I suspect the one-way valve in the fuel pump allows the pressure in the fuel lines to bleed away during off periods. Rather than replacing the pump I've just learned to live with it.

Mine started to do this once in a while and then the starter started spinning slower than it locked up. New starter installed, first time every time now.
