5.0 swap
ok im swaping a 5.0 enigne with a 5 speed into my 1997 ranger which currrently has a 2.3 automatic.. does anything has to be done with the rear end or can the stock ranger be able to run with the stok rear end

i would think with the 2.3 you probably had a 7.5 inch rear end. you should probably swap in a 8.8 to handle the extra power etc. if budget allows, it would also be a good time to buy a locker, or change your gear ratio. If you take it easy on your truck, you might be okay. if it were me i'd check out a junkyard for an 8.8, you might even be able to find 1 with trac lock diff. Also, you may want to get the front coils out of a 4.0 supercab ranger, install them and have it aligned. i imagine it will sit lower in the front with the 5.0 in there, if you like nose down look, you could probably leave it like that, or either take out the lift blocks (if there are any in the 2.3's) but either way you're going to need an alignment, the extra weight in the front cause ?negative? camber.

definately going to have to beef up suspension, that added wait is gonna be hard on your front end, you will have to change gear ratios eventually, but take it easy until then, the rear end, thats another question i have been trying to find an answer too, been looking at doing this myself, so i've done a little research but haven't found a definate answer, the best thing to do is do a search on it, and consult with the guys that have completed the swap, there are many people with pages on it, i just haven't talked to them yet since this plan is for when the 3.0 i have in it now craps out on me.
