Where's my drafting partner?
Now here is a truck with dealer ordered trouble that hangs in Ford Tough.
Third son has a 1980 F150 302 SROD (4spod) and I think a 2.25 rear gear.
When this poor critter is on the Interstate above 75mph I'm looking for a drafting buddy. And Nascar drivers think they have it bad at 195mph with 700-800hp? Sheeesh. As my son is currently unavailable to care for his truck, wife and I are thinking of a regular 4 sp. I'd do the rear but reverse is out of the trans.
Have to do some measuring, I know where to get a short tail shaft housing and long housing for the same price.

replace the whole tranny cause the SROD are junk, i replaced the one in my flareside with a toploader (get tranny) 4sp out of an ranchero.Also the rearend is probably a 2.80 (like mine) You can also swap in a t-18, t-19, or a NV-435, but i think you will have to make driveshaft changes, with thetoploader it will be a bolt in driveshaft and all.

I'll assume it is a 2wd, so I'd go for a T18/19 or NP435 (all of ford's early ODs suck). Granny gear will get it when you need to pull. I'd also go looking for a 3.08 geared rear. Probably cost you about $100 (you can get a 8.8" ford rear cheap).
