I put an Edelebrock 5.0 EFI truck intake and a BBK twin 56mm throttle body on a couple of weeks ago and can tell you it made a great increase in mid to upper range torque and power. I'm running true dual exhaust with headers so I don't if that helped the power gains or not with the addition of the intake.

your 96 is mass air right? if so you can try and locate a lightning gt40 upper and lower intake and move to a single throttlebody and intake tube. or you can also run the edelbrock efi truck lower and edelbrock performer upper (mustang). the runners are long and thats what generates good torque. or run the edelbrock efi truck upper/lower combo which is real nice
