Headers for 02 X
Just stumbled onto this site, fantastic information! I am looking to expand/improve with Gibson headers. What else is needed inbetween and/or around the above to make the total exhaust complete? Thanks for any help. Truck info: 02 excursion, V10, 4WD, 40K miles, cat back exhaust and K&N intake. I spoke with a local wrencher today about putting on headers. He recommended NOT doing it for fear of interferring with the O2 sensor and catalytic converter, etc. This is out of my league so I am depending on the good folks of this forum to lend your expertise. There is plenty of info here on headers. There are several "maniflold replacement" headers on the market. JBA, Gibson, Stone Mountain Racing. Other longer tube headers include Banks and Borla. These use a new "Y" pipe. IMO, the best system is the kits from Borla or Banks. The stock "Y" pipe causes a lot of restriction. In addition to headers, a free flowing muffler should also be installed. You can either buy a "cat-back" system or simply replace the stock muffler with a free flowing brand. Gibson, Flowmaster, Borla, Magnaflow, Dynomax are all good brands. Be warned though, the V10 will not sound like a V8. No deep rumble. There will be no issues with the O2 sensor or cat.
