I need to replace the head light **** (broken) on my 89 BII. I purchased the replacement from Ford which comes with the shaft. Any suggestions on how to access the mechanism. In the Haynes manual they show a simple release button to swich them out but I can't seem to remove the dash trim to do so. The manual has me unscrewing it at the ashtray but that doesn't get me very far...
Thanks,
Pat
the release button is on the **** itself you will see a small notch at the bse of the **** and a small screwdriver or something like that is all you need topush the clip in and remove the **** then unscerw the ring on the dash trim and remove the dash trim the rest of the unit is behind the dash not sure if your removing the switch or just the **** but those are the steps to do the the entire switch as well. hope i explained it ok for you
Okay.. Dash trim, I have 89BII and I had to remove my dash trim to access the radio to install an aftermarket one.
2 dash trims on B2... Screws (You will see these at various points around the trim) or Spring Joints (or something)
Most likely you got the spring joints. Basically, you take a wrench and remove 2 screws from the ashtray, pull the tray out...
Then, firmly grasp the top right (right near the 4x4 switch if you have one or by the air vent on mine) and pull, you'll have roughly 8-10 little spring joints that'll pop out. It's a pain in the butt the first time, but you should get it out within 5 minutes, You can then easily access your headlight ****.
