I have a 2000 X 4X4 w/7.3PSD. I was trying to get some info on what would be the best muffler to replace the factory one with. Funds are limited and I am looking at replacing the intake with an AFE or equivilant as well doing some work to the exhaust. I tow a 33' camper (7000#) several times a year and have a Hypertech programmer (given to me in exchange for computer work). I am wanting to keep my EGT down for the least amount of money. I would appreciate any input.
Would recomend a straight pipe, but it may be too loud for you on long trips....
any good 4" flow thru muffler (oh wait - 7.3L ???) not sure if yours is a 4 inch...
might try posting in the 7.3 forum or doing a search down there...
bet it's a regular discussion point !!!
but opening up the exhaust WILL give you some more punch while still losing some of those bad egt's
I also have a 2000 psd and I replaced the factory 3 1/2 inch exhaust with a 4" turbo back system with custom flow thru muffler. I don't appreciate the added noise on long hauls with my 30' camper but it works wellwith my AFE air filter and programmer. I hope this helps. My buddy had the same company do his X and he just asked for a quiter 4" muffler and they were happy to do that too. I didn't know I had the option of a different muffler that allowed good airflow without compromising the sanity level when pulling. It really isn't bad without the load behind but that is a rarity for me and my X as I am always pulling something!
Lockdoc, What programmer are you using? I purchased a predator and have been unable to get the stock tune down loaded. Tech Support has been no help at all. BTW, I'm on hold now! LOL!
I also have the predator and after 10 minutes on hold the tech came on and told me to download the newest version for the programmer and it should take care of my problems. I have to remember to take the truck back to factory tune before uploading anything to the Predator though! Will let you know how it turns out!
I have tried both of the download progams that is on their web site and can't get the comm port to agree on the PC. I have sent a email but have not got a reply. Have you been able to get yours to work at all? Needless to say I'm getting a little ticked of with them.
there should only be one download program for your version of the predator...
Are you sure you changed the comm port settings on both your pc and your predator to match ?
(if your pc issending out on Comm3 @ 9600 baud and the predator is watching Comm4 for 2400 baud.... they ain't EVER gonna talk !)
it takes a bit of a wait for the predator to recognize the connection and it has to be done in exactly the order they say....
serial communication is OLD technology... but at least it doesn't take shipping it back for weeks every time

I was talking about the down load program from Ford. I have set both to comm 1 as I only have one comm port. Also, tried to adjust the baud rate as decribed in the installation doc that I downloaded from Diablo web site. I haven't even got to hooking up the predator yet!
