Can anyone tell me what is the limit a Exp sport can handle as far as water depth? I was in a flood last night and stalled, water was about 2" inside,I got it started and headed for higher ground (A blazer and 6-8 cars) weren't so lucky......I drove it home while watching gauges etc... and everything seems fine but I dissconnected the batt. and opened doors. Im gonna take out the rugs today etc... but what about the rear and transfer case? Don't they have extensions on the breathers to keep water from getting in? Im gonna drop all the fluids etc... anywho as it just turned 30,000 should Ireport this on my Ins. and have them flushed/taken down? I pulled the breather tube for the rear and no water got in there and I checked the oil/A-trans fluid and didn't see any signs of moisture.I'll tell ya I was amazed how this truck performed as was the person I rescued from a mazda. I owned fords all my life and i was still impressed
If I remember correctly the tran service is at 30k anyhow. Wouldn't hurt to replace the fluid. After letting it sit a while, I would pull the inspection plug on the diffs to see if there is any water floating on top the oil. If so change the diff fluid.
all the fluids need to be checked either way so you might as well go ahead and change them esp at 30K miles! the limit really is when you start getting water in your intake which is pretty high (although i don't know where your computer is)....it should be about where the top of your engine comapartment is. anything before that and it is pretty much sealed. you might have problems with your fan though kicking water around real hard. but once you start getting waterin your intake you are pretty much through. also if you stall out in water and your exhaust is under water then you have to be real careful cause you could possibly hydro lock your motor.....so just keep your motor running if ya can

no oil is denser than water. water floats on top of oil. You got it mixed up. My brother does that all the time. i had to take a glass and show him. lol
and they also do mix, depending on how much it was churned about
so the water may still be laying around in some upper areas, and may even need to be flushed/changed even more than once to get all the water out completely
and don't forget about the water in any 4x4 hub lock in out devices. ( like the hubs) as water and grease always seem to get mixed around.which is why checking, re-greasing front hubs is always done on my truck after every winter, snow /water moisture
Yep, I had it bassackwards. To verify if there is water, he would have to open the bottom of the diff. If you are going to do that, you might as well drain it totally and refill. I doubt if you just loosened the bottom bolts and drained a little to see if there was water, that it would seal back up properly.

let the truck sit a day and pull teh plug and see if any water comes out. if it's in there it'll start coming out before any oil. My dad has a Nissan Xterra and the auto tranny pan has a water trap with a drainplug on it, amazed me when i saw it (it's a 2"x2" by 3/4" hump that sits lower than the rest of the pan). Most auto trannies the whole pan has to come down to get water out.
