timing 351-w
i have a 82 f-100 w/ a 351-w. it runs good except for the timing, when i run it for a little while then try to restart i get the dragging sound, which way would i turn the dist. to get back to better starts, also i know you can advance the timing for a little more power but there again i don't know which way to turn the dist. to get this result. lastly how do you check to see if the vaccume advance or timing advance is working? thanks for any help

There is a vacuum hose that runs from the carb to the distributor...unhook it from the carb..connect it to manifold vacuum..if the engine rpms go up at idle...its working.
Counter clockwise retards the timing.
Clockwise advances the timing.
Sounds like you may wanna advance it some but also sounds like you might have a starter going bad. Who knows? Good luck
