Last year I pulled apart my '92 351W to do a rebuild. Even though it's an EFI engine, it had the 2 piece fuel pump eccentric. I'm assuming it's there to hold the cam dowel pin in and act as a washer for the cam gear bolt.
Anyway, today I was installing the cam and when I was done torquing down the cam bolt I noticed the outer eccentric spins freely around the inner one, which is tight. The cam gear appears to be seated properly and the tab is in the dowel hole and everything looks kosher. It just seems like that outer eccentric would make a helluva racket if it spins on it's own. I don't want to tear into this thing again because of a big rattle under the front cover.
Is it supposed to spin? It's just the outer one, not the inner. It was a year ago when I tore it apart, and I don't remember how it was set up.
