What can I haul with a 1964 F100
I've got a 64 F100 longbed that I'm converting with a V8/C6 and disc brakes that I want to tow a small enclosed trailer with a few racebikes in it. I initially wanted to haul a small Toyhauler, but I'm thinking that a toyhauler may be beyond the ability of the vehicle. Most small toyhaulers have a GVWR around 10,000 lb. Does anyone know what the old dawg was rated for from the factory? I want to tow, but I want to be safe and reasonable at the same time.
The truck currently weighs ~3750
GVWR = 5000
Thanks for the input,
James

James, Stopping is the largest obstacle in the picture (remember that). A V8 and C6 should pull your trailer with a couple of bikes just fine. Try to keep the load balanced in the trailer and not front heavy.
I see folks that may be within their GVW but have a long trailer with the load up front, stressing the tongue and rear of the truck. A balanced trailer is sweet to pull.

I used to have a 76 F-100 with a 302, 3 on the tree and power nothing, hauled a 10&1/2 foot cabover and pulled a Fiat X-19 from Seattle to San Diego chewed up 2 tires and had fun stopping it. I was really young(22) and dumb then thinking I was bullet proof. It will pull but I would seriously think about trailer brakes any way. Safe and sane is the way to go. Jowilker is right as I work hard to keep the wieght balanced with a very slight amount more to the front. A good balance and you can almost lift it off the hitch by hand. Just get a good quality receiver and go for the gusto.
