I have an 86 BII with 2.9
I rebuilt the engine two years ago. I also drive another truck, so I have probably put on 5,000 miles.
Somehow I got a piece of metal into the #5 cylinder. I took the head off and the piston is cracked.
All I can think of, is there was a washer I dropped when I was putting the engine back together. I hope it did not come from anywhere else.
Has anyone heard of pieces of steel in a cylinder?
If nothing else, you can have a great weekend, knowing you are not re-re-building an engine.

I have seen pistons cracked by valves that have dropped after the valve keepers let go. Also seen parts of a spark plug imbedded in the piston that was destroyed by severe detonation. Besides destoying the piston the cylinder wall was scored & the rod bent. You are probably right on what happened.

I've seen bad casting in the cylinder walls or airpockets inthe
casting let go and get popped out into the combustion chambers
makes for a real mess!
