Dealer Filter choice...

I work at a Ford dealership and work with diesels daily. I want to pass on what I have learned that most people dont realize about filters, mainly oil filters.

We crush our filters, and I get to see many different kinds of filters crush, I will say Fram filters crush down the most, and I do not feel they are built to the same standards as others. Baldwin is next. Although I do use a bf1222 fuel filter, thier oil filters again dont have much strength, but i rate them above a fram. Next I see tons and tons of Motorcraft filters, 1995 and 784's Both of them have higher crush loads, and seem to really seat well on the oil filter base.

However, I must give top credit to Donaldson. The other day I had my first donaldson crushed and it barely crushed. We cut it open and I was amazed how large the filtering area was, and how the craftsmanship looked. And I am looking to locate some around here for myself. it seated perfect.

All of the above have a contoured base gasket just like your engine base EXCEPT the Fram, it has a flat gasket, and everyone i remove, seems to have some kind of leak.

Now contrary to what we use at the dealership (Chevron Delo), I am a Rotella man myself....lol
