I have a 1982 F350 with a 351m 2150 carb on it the problem is i can not get the truck to run correctly unless i turn the a/f screws out about 3.5 turns which the truck is running so rich your eyes burn when you are around the truck the timing is set at 8 btds the vacuum gauge reads 20 and the truck runs ok but like i said the fumes are really bad and when you let off hte gas it backfires a little thru exhaust any help would be appreciated
Thanks for the reply this is a remanufactered carb the second one the first one i had a (professional ) do and he screwed that completly up he disconected vacuum line turned the auto choke to manual never ran very well for awhile so I went to a donor yard got all emmission and vacuum accessories took pictures and followed the vacuum schematic the best i could I pretty sure i have it right put on the reman carb also hooked up auto choke with new heat tubes from donor truck new plugs wires cap rotor pcv valve air breather and timing chain just put on a new distributor but still runs rich Motor is a reman about 25000 miles on it now bought from marshall engine I will check float could this be a vacuum problem maybe ran vacuum wrong I do not believe there is a leak vacuum gauge stays steady and after i shut it off system holds vacuum egr seems to be operating correctly also Im not sure but I do not believe truck has a o2 sensor i believe it never did since i owned the truck thanks for any reply
I had a remanned 2150 as well and finally gave up on it and installed a Holley 2300 350CFM carb. MUCH better and it has a manual choke that actually works. You may have to re-jet that 2150 to lean it out especially if you are at high altitude.
