Front wheel hubs hot?

I painted the hub covers on my truck (the black XL covers) and when they were dry went to put them on after running an errand. It was then that I noticed the plastic housings surrounding the 4x4 manual hubs were very hot. Almost too hot to keep your hand on. Is this normal? Yes the hubs are in the free position and shift is in two wheel mode. Thanks

A Hot hub outside usually indicates a bad bearing inside.....

Are both the driver and passenger sides hot? Or just one?
