Do you guys think there will be any problem if I replace the stock air cleaner assembly with an Edelbrock signature or the like? (i.e. get rid of the hot air duct from the exhaust and cold air duct) Would there be any performance improvement?
It all depends on if you need the stock air cleaner to pass emission testing. The benefits of an open element is increased air flow, but the down side is your'e pulling hot air from the engine compartment. Engines work better with a cooler air charge, so if you can find a free flowing air cleaner assembly with a snout that leads out of the engine bay, you'll be good to go.
K&N sells one but I think it's for an EFI truck. I'm not positive, so you'll need to check it out.
