Disc Brake conversion
i would also like to drop in a 300 six cylinder in place of the 351m i assume the motor mounts are different? and last but not least i would also like to add an automatic trans. with overdrive any help? i know it sounds as though i would like a brand new truck but that is not the case the old stuff just looks better and is a lot eaiser to work on. thanks
Is this a 2wd or 4x4?
All '79 F100s came with front disc and rear drums. Power brakes was an option, adding a booster and pedal will give you power brakes. The front disc/rear drum is a good setup and will stop well. Kits are available to add rear discs, I believe they run about $400-$600.
A 300 will fit but you need to change the motor mounts, exhaust, carb linkages, tranny, radiator, accessory mounts and other small things. Why do you want a 300 over the 351M?
Auto with overdrive from a newer pickup can be installed and has been done. Check the past posts for details.
My '73 is slowly becoming a new truck too... I prefer the look/feel of the old iron too.
