Starving For Fuel

First time posting in this forum(never had a problem until now!) Anyway...I have a 1988 Bronco 351. When driving the truck at random times it will "starve" itself of fuel. If it stalls, it will always re-start (eventually), sometimes I can just accelerate hard while driving and it will start running good again. I have replaced ,or fixed, or cleaned the : fuel filter, fuel pump, the pressure regulator, and cleaned the throttle body.
My truck has 275,000 miles. Could an old catalytic converter cause problems? I was thinking if the exhaust was restricted it could bog down the engine. Any thoughts, or what should I check next?
Thanks, James

is it efi or carbed. i think its carbed so it could need a rebuild or just replacing. fuel pump, filter should be replaced not fixed. yes the cat to could clog and cause issues. when was it tuned up last. i would also do a compression check on all cylinders

Its a good possibility. Often a C/C will have the internal substrate crack and a piece of it will lodge in the exit end causing a restriction. Only problem with troublshooting thsi dilema is that it requires tearing the exhaust apart to check unless you can hear pieces rattling around inside it. Usually if the clog is great enough to kill the engine though, you can look under the truck and see the overheated cat. I had it happen to a vehilce I owned and the front end fo the cat was actually glowing red from the heat build-up. At 275K, if you are still on the original cat, you may well have a problem.

Only other fuel related component you might check before you tear the exhaust apart is your throttle positioning sensor. Its a long shot and usually you will see idle problems but its worth checking out.
