Just wanted to say hello to everyone. Obviously I am new to the site. I am as well new to the 1969 f-100 I bought friday. As you can see from my sig. it is a 240 inline six, with a three on the tree. I have a couple of questions if any one can help me out. Here goes:
1. How hard is it to install power brakes?( This non power assisted 4 wheel drum set up is pretty tough. The Flinstones had it better.)
2. How hard is it to install power steering? (Not trying to sound like a wuss here, but there is a reason man invented power assisted options)
3. Third and most important, towards the bottom of the drivers side dash there is a light. It is just a bulb recessed into the dash. What purpose does this serve? The bulb isnt burnt out, yet it doesnt appear to work. I thought maybe it would come on with the dome light but it doesnt. Its driving me nuts not knowing.
I dont expect anyone to give me a very detailed description on the powerbrake/ steering questions, just wanted to know if someone who is fairly mechanically inclined could do these jobs. Thanks in advance.
yes, yes, and brake failure light - power steering is almost easy - power brakes also - I suggest you buy both steering and brakes used off the same truck - any 68 to 72 - and change it as a unit. I would go with power disks - change out the I beams and everything. Is a hard weekend project, but not technically demanding.
The light indicates the pressure in the front brake lines is different than the pressure in the rear brake lines - comes on when there is a failure like a burst hose. It should also turn on when you hit start to indicate it is working.
Welcome, Blue. Search through past threads in this forum and you'll find lots of info on the brake and steering swap. It almost seems like theres not a single idea or problem I've had with my '67 that someone hasn't discussed in detail at some point before on this site.
