Fredric please look at my thread again!!

Fredric, I see that you are a veteran user on this forum.
please take another look at my odometer problems. I could really us the help with this problem. You are the only person that even had a guess for me to look at.Thanks
F-150 xlt 4x4 w/6cyl (error.3 on odometer)
I checked the wires on the abs and at a glance I didn't see any broken wires.
While looking under the hood I noticed a electrical plug hanging. It near the back of the valve cover.and there is a place there foe some other type of relay or something. Any idea what could go there, maybe something related to my problems ????

Naaah, didn't send my cluster to ford. I just got another cluster out of a junkyard and slapped it in, called it a day. Four screws and three connectors made it nice and easy.

"Error 3" indicates a bad processor, so the little circuit board behind your speedometer and odometer is fried. The only way to fix it is replace it. Clusters from 92 through 96 will work just fine, with or without a tach, from Bronco's, any of the F-trucks 150 through 450. Sometimes you see them on e-bay also. There are a few ebay sellers offering them for 80-90 bucks, and only go that route if you're desperate. Typically in junkyards its a $20-25 item, sometimes a few bucks more, or a few bucks less depending where in the country you are. Yards in NJ for example are a little more pricey than say... Iowa.

Unfortunately, replacement is your only option. Technically, if you take the cluster apart, you could replace just the speedometer/odometer module, but its much easier to just replace the whole cluster. Less effort

LOL. I hear ya. Every time I buy parts (new or junkyard), or have a shop do some work (like ball joints on my F350 - not cheap), I remind myself what it would cost to buy a new F350 crewcab longbed. $45K or so.

I've bought two new cars in my life, and both of them broke often enough for me to go back to buying used vehicles and keeping them maintained until there's nothing left.
