i might hve posted in the wrong forum before so here it goes again...Bought a used 02 excursion with 24k on it in july. I have put 5k on it with normal driving and a few trips. Recently noticed the tranny is searching for a gear around 40-50 mph and when accelrator is released the tranny seems to clunk down and up when i rehit the accelerator. Also truck shudders sometimes when i hit the brake when stopping.... not a brake shudder but a whole vehicle shudder. This doesnt happen all the time, but I am a newbie to board and excursions so I was curious at your thoughts. BTW it is a 4x4 limited, 7.3. I am going to dealership on wed 9/29 and will keep you all posted... thanks in advance for any help
I also have an 02 4x4 limited with the 7.3. I haven't experienced any of what you are talking about. So I would make sure you do get it into the dealership to get checked out. Best of luck to get your great rig back to where it should be.

you've come to the right place to get some ideas on where to go....

when you started describing your truck... I thought it was MY 02 Estate Green X... but alas - mine was a 4x2

even little ole me knows the prob with your brake shudder...
it's he beginning of rotor warping....
sounds like someone tightened the lug nuts incorrectly...
they are very sensitive to the wrong torque or technique...
The BEST way is to tighten them in a star pattern in 50 lbft increments until you reach the 145 to 155 lbft torque....
any more and you can almost assure yourself of rotor warpage...
(most shops have their air guns with about 200 lbft settings )
but your tranny is still under warranty - DO get it into the dealership for repair...
got it back from dealer with fresh cut rotors and a complete tranny flush runs sweeeeeeeet now i am looking into straight pipe(or muffler) and an intake filter
