Installed my Pw Steering today

Well it's in my 66 F100 and works like a charm took 5 1/2 hours all together, a couple of things I did descover that wernt in the forums so I will pass this on.
The Steering column I picked up was from a 1979 F150 alng with teh Steering box. I got the Tree ( left engine mount ) from a 67 with pw steering. The cooler had to be shorten ( input side ) to fit in but it did fit.So every thing fit fine. Used a Pw steering pump bracket from the 67 also. BUT the boot on the steering coulmn only fit the 4 bottom holes and requird filling the top 3 holes, No big deal but did not know so passing it along. Also the mounting Tab ( flat peice that raps around the steering column to hold it up under the dash required much longer bolts ( larger spaceing ) good thing I work in a shop with a large selection of Stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers. As this was a automatic trany column I made a temp shift by ataching the auto selector to gears 1 and reverse so I could back it out of the shop. In a word WORTH EVERY MIN. 1 finger steering and tight as a bugs well you know. Next C6. almost there.I also had to space the pump foward to use the second pully on the motor so it would clear the Bottom Rad hose.By using Stainless steel spacers was able to grind them to alighn the belt perfictly.
What I used

Pw steering pump from 1979 F150 - $18.99
Power steering box from 1979 F150 - $39.99
Power steering / auto steering Column 1979 F150 - $39.99
presure hose and cooler line - $18.00
Left side motor mount 1967 F100 - $8.00
Pw steering braket from 1967 F100 - $8.00
4 small bottles pw steering fluid ( cleand and purged ) - $11.80
2 hamburgars and a large coke ( had to buy brother lounch) $6.50

All total - $151.27 + $10.96 Tax = $162.23

and It works great!

If I can do it anyone can

Your description and price list really helpful. Best upgrade ever made. What a deal, and well worth it. I was fortunate have floor shift and did not have to deal with the steering column. Have another 65 intend to install the upgrade and if do not use the long bolts to attach column to bracket in cab, may remove mount off original and installed on the later column. Anyhow, not sure how long you have experienced the manual steering on your truck, have been driving my truck w/ manual steering for past 20 plus yrs., what a difference.

Hey All,
I am doing the conversion of my 1966 to a Power Steering system and tilt column from a 1979. The hardware bolted up pretty well. How did you guys adapt the wiring from the later model column to the earlier model cab? It seems the 66 brake light circuit runs up the column and others as well. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mechanicsburg

The 79 column wireing is a bit differant as the brake output from the switch goes to two connections into the column then the Flasher signle goes into another wire it's all switched internally, I did it by trial and error, maby ill have time tomorrow to write the connections down as ill be under the dash for a bit cleaning up some more wireing. ill try to post it tomorrow evening.

I did a trial & error when I did mine. I also defeted the hazzard in the column and use the one on the dash. I copied this and saved it to mydocs on my hard drive. I'm sorry that I didn't save the authors name, to give proper credit.

John: I see you're up early too.
Didn't you mean to post information for a '73-'79 steering column?
The '67 - '72 uses the same connector and pinouts, at least, the '72 steering column I had (at one time) hooked up to my '66 wiring harness, and everything worked correctly.

PS: I stayed overnight in Creedmore last Monday night at the Comfort Inn, but didn't have your phone number handy and it wasn't in the book.
