Question Electronic Throttle Control

I have a 04 F-150 4x4 sc with a 5.4, has anyone had their engine go into what Ford calls " limp-home operation " ? when i start the engine and put it in gear it starts to surge and jerk i drove for about 20 mi. than i tried to put the cruise control on ( which wouldn't work )to watch the tack and see if the rpm's were flucuating at a steady speed, that's when i notice the little wrench showing up in the instrument cluster. The truck has done this one more time and as soon as i shut it off and started it again it's ran ok.

Your dealer should have a TSB on the problem.
There is an updated PCM program to cure the wrench light coming on.

Ok thanks, i'm going to take it in today and let them look at it. This is a great site, wished i'd known about it years ago. :-)

Had this happen a few times, then the wrench and the check engine light came on....then the check engine light stayed on and I took it in. 20 minutes later they had flashed the PCM with the latest version, and all was fixed. Ford doesn't know what is causing it, but the guy who fixed mine told me its most likely a throttle position switch/sensor--apparently there are several for various tasks incorporated into the system.
