In my 1971 Four wheel drive i have the 360, t18, and dana21 case. whenever i have the truck in four wheel drive, and i apply any acceleration above idle the torque twists the shifters (tranny and case and engine ) over so far that the throttle linkage accelerates all the way, on its own, and will not let off. i figured at first the two engine mounts and the tranny mount are old and original and are probably worn out. i replaced all three torqued them down and still have the same problem. anytime i try to climb a hill it especially happens. the only other thought i have is maybe due to the oblong oval shaped holes on the engine mount buckets? any other suggestions. oh p.s. and now today it was twisting so bad that the clutch linkage was binding and it was very hard to release the clutch when it kept happening?
you have a mount, an engine stand, or a crossmember loose, and i dont mean a little!
with the mounts all being freshly replaced, i would start at the others. make sure all bolts are in and tight.
Sounds like the body mounts, though I would make sure all the bolts between the engine/transmission/transfer case are there and tight. The rubber part of my cab mount looked okay, until I inspected it closer and realized it was pushed 1/4 of the way into the metal of the mount.
Make sure all the bolts/rivets are there and tight for the front suspension (radius arm brackets) and cross members.
hey thanks guys for the info, luckily this is just one of my weekend warriors and not a daily driver. so ill check on this stuff as soon as i have time this week. thanks alot for the help
