carrier bearing
I get this weird clunk when pulling out at a dead stop. I like to change the u-joints and carrier bearing. What is all invovled in swapping out the carrier bearing? Also does anyone thinks this the culprit to my problem? The truck is a 96 250 5 speed 4x4 Thanks any input would be great.

Before you do that, I fixed a similar problem with my 91 F250 by simply changing out the rear end oil with Redline Shockproof synthetic. They have three grades: Light, Medium, and Heavy. I used the heavy. It was 75-140 weight, but due to the characteristics of the oil it can be rated at 75-250. It completly and I mean completly cleared up the knock from startup off the line that I was experiencing. I couldn't even make it do the noise anymore after that. Even with stomping the gas from a dead stop.

I can't provide you a picture but I can give a link to the place that I buy it in Seattle, WA.
It's the next to the last item on the list, the 5 liter jug for $39.95. It looks exactly like Pepto-bismol in color - orange.
