Global warming is here

Imagine if it did exist! I'd love it to be 78° all year around! No cold fronts makin' nasty weather! No salt scattered all over the roads rottin' out my beloved Ford truck. No tornadoes destroying perfectly good trailer parks! Man! It'd be...It'd be...It'd be...well, just like living in Hawaii, again! but I'd be able to drive for more than an hour.

ultramagdan is right.

Our lives are so short in the grand scheme that any noticable changes we may see in climate are just insignificant variations.
As has already been mentioned, there is much evidence that the Global Warming thing is yet another Junk Science example.

Reminds me of the example my wife told me of today of someone connecting their ice maker to the hot water side because it freezes faster. This is surprisingly wide-spread common ignorance of basic physics.

Minnesota you're probobly getting snow, right.

About the global warming thing. Who are we to say what the weather should be?
Also what can we do about the weather? Nothing. So we might as well just keep doin' what we do best
If you want my opinion though, it ain't cars and trucks polluting the air, it's the thousands jumbo jets each day that dump hundreds of gallons of jet fuel into our air just before they land.

Global warming is bunk. There is no evidence. The computer models are so full of assuptions that they can tweak it to give them the response they want. Global warming serves the environmentalists well as a lever to push regulation and more government on us. Now I am not against clean air, but the global warming proponents push thing too far. Consider this (quoted from a recent Legg Mason publication which quoted the San Francisco Chronicle):

"Myth: Some 98% of scientists believe that global warming is real--as former Vice President Al Gore wrote in his 1992 book, "Earth in the Balance." to the contrary, a 1992 Gallup poll found that only 17% of climatologists were convinced that human-induced global warming was real. We are being duped by the powers that be."

Whoops, Sorry, that last sentence, "We are being duped by the powers that be." is not part of the quote, but mine.

I am not sure I believe anyone anymore. I think most of the current "evidence" is in support of a political agenda. There are scientific studies to support either view. There are new studies that are coming out that seem to say we are not headed to an unusual warming or the result will be beneficial rather than a disaster.

In my opinion I think there are more "tree hugger" type scientific studies than Scientifically based studies. The general public is easily swayed by the spectacular and doomsday type reports, so that is what we pay to read.

From what I have read way back in the 60s to now, the earth has cyclical temperature swings. We are supposedly coming out of a mini iceage that has lasted hundreds of years. Man kinds influence on temperatures is minor at best, mother nature is in control and she is making it warmer, maybe. But in any case it is part of the normal cycle.

I have heard that actually IF things do warm up as some studies say, it will actually cause an increase in food production since lands not currently under cultivation will be used and marginal lands will go out of use or get more rain.

Just like the weather, I think you pick a study and decide which one you like best, that is about as accurate as we get. Over the big picture, our infuence on the planet is just a burp in the picture.

Just my opinion and I don't believe I can change anyone's mind.

I just want to put two pennies in for us scientists who love Ford trucks. Most of us are not politcally motivated or secretly on industrial payrolls. We do experiments, draw conclusions, and tell the world about it. Some have found the world is getting warmer, others conclude the opposite. You will find this situation in any subject in any field of science. I personally have tried to read original scientific papers on global warming (I'm a microbiologist, not a climatologist) and find them incomprehensible with their computer models and complex statistical analyses. Like everyone else I rely on second-hand interpretation of the data, which can sometimes be a dangerous thing. What I do know is that the legitemate scientist is not out there trying to fool the world with "computer models are so full of assuptions that they can tweak it to give them the response they want. " They are applying their knowledge and ability to a subject (global warming) that happens to be on just about everyones' agenda. True, there are always bad apples in the barrel, just like in any other field. But if you look closely, the people with the loudest mouths on both sides of the issue are usually not scientists, and usually don't understand the studies they are quoting.
With that said, I don't want anyone taking my big 351W away from me now that I got it running sooooooo good!!
take care,
Tom

So what! In Wyoming you can find bones of both the wooly mammoth as well as a plethora of dinosaurs. Colder mean temps or hotter mean temps, its all part of the normal cycle. We'll all be bones as well before anything meaningful happens.

Global warming is here

Hoooooooooooooray for all you guys!!

I've been on this globe for over 60 years, and I've seen all kinds of weather changes (bet it still gets -100 (wind chill) in Greenland 110 + plus in Arizona.

History teaches us that everything runs in cycles, and the weather is not exempt from this rule. The earth has experienced millenia-long cycles of "cold spells" and "warm spells". Civilizations have come and gone. I believe in the "truth" that any population will expand to overfill the area it controls (just as do rabbits, deer, and others do), and then die back until the environment can again support it. The human race has managed to delay that process for a small moment in time. The global weather cycles are a part of this "Plan".

I'm so glad to see that the people of this generation )I assume most of you are much younger than I) are not willing to follow the "Chicken Littles" of the world; that they insist on learning for themselves if something is true or not true.

My faith in the human race is renewed, Thank You!

I dont know if any of you have been to , seen or flown over Mt Washington , NH , Its easily one of the most inhospitable places in North America this time of yr . Mind you not many people live there this time of yr . If your local tv or radio weather people give this info , I know NOAA does , Enviro Canada may do the same , they give the high & low temps on this particular date . There are a lot of unusual high temps in the 50's , 60's , 70's . Look at last winter , Most of N America had more snow & cold than they could deal with , It snowed from Nov to Apr . I think all the things we use that emit some sort of emissions contribute to the weather , I think its done more to change the weather patterns rather than warm it . The way I see it , Its more of an evoulution than anything . I think when you look at us & the earth , We , & what we do are more like a few fleas on the back of a big dog . Just look at Tornados , Earthquakes , Floods , Volcanos etc , I think nature can tune us up 10X faster than anything we can do over yrs . Read the link if you think its cold where you live ...

Global warming is here

Just remember, the same science that can hardly predict the weather one week from now, claims to see this huge man-caused catastrophy. When confronted with the fact that there is no significant evidence of a man-caused global warming catastrophy, environmentalists will admit it, but then will say that if we wait for the evidence it will be too late to correct it. So how many unsubstantiated environmental distasters are we going to try to avert, when our money could be going to better uses like lower taxes? Again, I am not against clean air, but there is a point of diminishing returns. And look at the economics: What is the cost to reduce automotive emissions another 5% and why spend it when aircraft spew raw untreated emissions wholesale into the atmosphere. I bet I can take my 460 V8 motorhome across the USA for less emissions than one jetliner trip from Detroit to Chicago. Not sure you can do anyting to reduce jet emissions, but in comparison, automotive emissions seem negligible.
