Smile oil pan clearance problem

I have a 78 f-250 the oil pan sump is in the front and when the front Diff flex's it hits the oil pan. My other truck same year. The sump is in the rear.Did some one put a car motor in it? Or is that the way it supposed to be?It's a 351m,I think? I havent run the numbers yet.Any one know thanks.

It sounds like a car oil pan with the oil pump in the front.
its a common swap to use a engine from a 2 wheel drive or a car since they can usually be bought cheaper just get a differnt oil pan and pump and you`ll be fine

Yeah it either sounds like it was replaced with an engine from a car, or someone somewhow mamged to get everything on backwards when they put it on.
Hope it helps,
-Chris

Thanks for the help.Does anyone know where I can get a oil pan, pump and screen? So that I can put the sump in the rear to get it away from my Diff?

a 351m oil pan CAN NOT be put on backwards, look at one and you will see why, one side is different from the other as well as the rear seal is bigger than the front seal

If it's in the pan ive used 3/8's steel tubbing, and used the old threaded part that goes into the pan,and just bent it to match my old tube. Then after I was done I do a oil change, and make sure you made the tube the right length.Ive done this on a couple of our street warior's.Worked good,no leak's!Just a thought if you can't find what you need but im sure you will.

sounds like a car pan... I did the same thing with my 79 butttt I had 6 inch left so I was okay.... you will have to get a pan pick up tube with screen.... you can change the pan without pulling the motor but it is a pain...
