MY problem is that my tailgate window will not rise. I was wondering how do you get the glass up to check the motor and safety switch when the glass is down. I have not yet checked to see if im the switch is bad. The window went down fine, then i turned my truck off and the window would not go up. Any help would be greatful.
push in on the drivers side of the tailgate whan trying to lift it up. make sure the gate is all the way closed. or, open the gate, take off the access panel, remove the glass (carefully) and replace the motor. the access panel is underneath the carpeting.
If the window doesn't extend after pushing the tailgate in on the drivers side as suggested above (safety switch prevents the glass from extending when the tailgate is open) then remove the access panel and jumper 12v directly to the motor. You should be able to get to the connector with the glass down, it is a 2 pin connector right in the center. Push the drivers side latch in to simulate the door being closed and if the motor works (reverse your jumpers for up/down) then you have a switch problem, most likely in the dash switch.
I got the window up by hooking the battery directly to the motor. I alos hooked the battery to the wire on the underside of the bronco i figured out that the switch was bad. Thanks for the help.
Is the rear windowswitch a dealer part or is there another place that i can pick one up at.
The tailgate switch is an integral part of the harness, $200. DO NOT buy a harness before changing the dash switch, which is available from your local dealer for under $20. Don't make yourself crazy with a multimeter shooting voltages either. (Been there, done that) BTW, Jeff's Bronco Graveyard "technical help" will gladly suggest you buy a harness from them.
A bad dash switch will make both switches inoperative since the grounds for both swtches have to pass through the dash switch.
